EMDRIA Certification
The next optional step after EMDR Basic training is to work toward EMDRIA Certification.
EMDRIA uses a competency-based model for certification as an EMDR Certified Therapist. You do not need to be certified to practice EMDR Therapy after completion of EMDR Basic training. After Basic Training you are considered an EMDR Trained Therapist.
EMDR Certification - For the purpose of becoming an EMDR Certified Therapist by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA link) the following are required:
Completion of an EMDRIA approved EMDR Training (instructional, practicum, and 10 group consultation hours)
Be independently registered as a mental health professional at time of application
EMDRIA requires a minimum of 20 hours of consultation (post training) with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant or Consultant-in-Training
EMDRIA requires a minimum of 10 hours be through individual (one-on-one) consultation
10 hours may be through group consultation - learning from other therapists and their case conceptualizations and experiences can be very helpful!
12 hours of EMDRIA approved continuing education credits (typically advanced topics)
50 EMDR sessions with at least 25 clients
